SONY PICTURES acquires "Made In Dagenham!"

Sony Pictures Classics has pre-emptively acquired US and multiple foreign rights to Nigel Cole's labor drama "Made in Dagenham," starring Sally Hawkins, Miranda Richardson, Rosamund Pike, Geraldine James and Bob Hoskins.

Pic, formerly titled "We Want Sex," was written by William Ivory and produced by Stephen Woolley ("The Crying Game," "Scandal") and Elizabeth Karlsen ("Ladies in Lavender") through their Number 9 Films label.

"Made in Daggenham" was originally developed with funding from the UK Film Council, and its production has been backed by BBC Films, BMS Finance, Lip Sync Productions and the UK Film Council. Story's inspired by the 1968 strike at the Ford Dagenham car plant, where female workers walked out in support of equal pay.

Cole's previous credits include "Saving Grace" and "Calendar Girls."

HanWay Films represents worldwide sales. Its CEO Tim Haslam, Karlsen and Woolley negotiated the sale to Sony Pictures Classics.

Foreign markets sold include Japan, Latin America and Spain.
